Day 30 progress
22. Build a home studio: I put some small touches on the room over the past few days. I disassembled the old desk and gave the room a good vacuumig. After that we moved the futon into the studio. Today I bought a houseplant at Home Depot for one corner of the room. I figured I needed something to make the room less businesslike.
I have a few minor things left to do, but the room is pretty much functional at this point. I won't consider this complete until I have everything done.
98. Go to 5 concerts: I managed to score the fan club ticket password for Morrissey tickets. I maxed out what I could buy since they are all general admission. Right now it looks like I'll be attending with my fiancee, my sister, and a friend of ours. The show is May 25th.

Day 24 progress
Even though I had the day off, I was a bit lazy and didn't accomplish much on the list.
22. Build a home studio: My M-Audio Axiom 25 MIDI controller arrived yesterday along with my mixer to monitor cable. The new gear is hooked up, but I still haven't taken the time to hook up the effects rack. I did make a patchbay spreadsheet so I can keep track of the connections from port to port.
I also failed to get my old desk completely disassembled. I need more storage space, and once I get a desk drawer for my desk from IKEA (they were out of stock at my local location) I'll be able to store desk supplies, like pens, notepads, manuals, stapler, and the like. Overall, I have 75% of the studio in place, and I'm shooting to have the remaining 25% done by April 1st.
25. Listen to every one of my tracks on iTunes: I've listened to 303 of 5819.
57. Clean out my anime collection: I sold two more listings, and re-listed 5 items that did not sell this last time around.
99. Go to the Velvet Hookah: The location in Addison closed, and since I have to work in the morning, we opted to skip going all the way down to Deep Ellum. I'll revisit this item on the list.

Day 21 progress
I haven't accomplished much that is new. I figured I would use this post to cover a few things that I have done in the past day and bring everything up to the present, and cover some things that are in the works.
20. Walk in the 2007 Dallas MS walk: The walk is on the 31st of March. I received my participant information in the mail. If the weather hold up to current conditions, it should make for a nice morning walk. The total course is 5K, but I'm not going to be in any hurry to finish it. For me, this is a way to put some decent physical activity on the map, and to serve as the start to more constant physical activity than I have been partaking of recently.
22. Build a home studio: I moved my computer and have my new desk 90% set up. I need a stereo 1/4" to RCA cable to connect my mixer to my monitors, and it is on order from Musician's Friend. I also picked out the art and posters that will be in the studio. I went with a mix of posters from my college days and some Art-Nouveau prints in frames.
I started tearing my old desk apart. I have so much junk on the old desk, that I need to go through the junk before I can complete the disassembly. I'll also need to adjust and move the remaining DVD shelves into the other office. The futon is still in the master bedroom, and I should change the placement of my effects rack, move my guitars into the room, and put a small table next to the futon for drinks and my Japanese incense burner.
I'm also obligated to help my fiancee organize her office, since a lot of the things cluttering that room are mine. I should be able to get rid of a lot of it or store it in the attic with a little sorting.
25. Listen to every one of my tracks on iTunes: I bought a couple of CDs yesterday, so my total number of tracks has increased to 5819. So far I have listened to 267 of 5819.
36. Eat at Bob's Steak and Chop House: Bob's is supposed to be one of the best steakhouses in the United States, and my parents want to make a family trip there. I've heard fabulous things about Bob's, and I expect that the food will be excellent. We're planning to go on the 31st of March.
95. Complete 100 expert level Sudoku games without hints: I have completed 6 of 100 games.
99. Go to the Velvet Hookah: There may be a possible outing this Friday with the fiancee and some friends. The plans aren't set in stone, so this may be a false-start, but we'll see how things go.

Day 20 progress
I got a lot done over the past few days, and I'm off tomorrow, so I'll have time to work on the list. Some of my non-101 things that I accomplished included cleaning up the yard for the spring, planting my artichokes and lettuce, and cleaning out some more junk that had accumulated in the house.
22. Build a home studio: I made a lot of progress over the past few days with the help of my fiancee. First, I set up the wireless network, moved my guitar cases into the storage closet, and cleaned up some old papers and assorted crap. Today we assembled my new desk, moved her desk into the spare bedroom, which has become her personal office, and vacuumed the room that will become my studio.
Tomorrow I am going to move my computer to the new desk, disassemble the old desk, finish vacuuming, move my guitars into the studio, connect the cables on the rack and mixer, and test everything out to make sure it is connected correctly. I'm also going to pick which of my posters and artwork will go into the studio.
All that will be left after tomorrow is to move the futon into the studio, hang shelves on the wall by my desk for my studio monitors, hanging the posters and artwork, and painting one of the walls. I may build some bass traps and add a MIDI controller rack, but those things are not vital to making the studio functional, which is ultimately my goal with this item. I will post photos when I get the futon moved and the art on the walls.
51. Save $1 cash each day for 1001 days: I added $10 to my stash for a total of $40.
57. Clean out my anime collection: I sold 4 more listings on eBay over the past few days, which takes another 12 DVDs out of the mix. I have a few more auctions that will end in the next couple of days. I may list some more items tomorrow if I get the time.

Day 15 progress
22. Build a home studio: My patchbay arrived today, which completes the assembly of my effects rack. In all, the rack consists of a 28 space rack system, power conditioner, patchbay, compressor, 2 channel, 31 band equalizer, and Alesis Quadraverb GT signal processor. I won't hook everything up until I get more of the room set up.
I also finished shredding old documents, a task necessary to getting the office cleaned out. I also cleaned up some old boxes, disposed of my old chair mat, which had cracked from age, and spot cleaned the carpet.
25. Listen to every one of my tracks on iTunes: I had to delete "Black Love" by the Afghan Whigs from my library because the ripping process got screwed up some how. I'm going to see if I can re-import it. My fiancee also picked up a couple of new CDs, so I'll add them into the library too.
So far I have listened to 188 of 5779 total tracks.
42. Read 50 books I have not read before: I've finished In Utero.
I liked it much better than Loveless, and almost as much as Doolittle. In Utero focuses more on the recording of the album by the same name, and doesn't delve as much into the birth of the band and their previous albums as Doolittle did. Overall, it's a great book and really gets into then interplay between DGC, the band, and Albini.
I was also impressed with the level of creative involvement that Kurt Cobain had when it came to the visual elements related to the band. It's not a love-fest for or over-analysis of Cobain, which made the book read in a nice, informative, and professional manner. If you like Nirvana, you should check out this title.
My next book is Fool the World: The Oral History of a Band Called Pixies, by Josh Frank and Caryn Ganz. This is a much larger book than the 33 1/3 volumes, so it may take a couple more days for me to complete it. So far I have read 2 of 50 books.
57. Clean out my anime collection: I relisted 7 items that did not sell, and listed 5 new items. Hopefully they'll all be gone in a week.
95. Complete 100 expert level sudoku games without hints: I completed another one, which puts my total at 5 of 100.

Day 11 progress
I completed my first item today. Granted, it was a pretty easy one, but something that had slipped my mind until I decided to do this exercise.
4. Get a library card (COMPLETED): I think this took no more than 5 minutes to complete. I walked in, showed the clerk my driver's license, filled out a form, and had my card less than a minute after that.

20. Walk in the 2007 Dallas MS walk: I registered today and will be participating with my fiancee's coworkers who already set up a team for the event. This one will be completed at the end of the month.
22. Build a home studio: I made significant progress today. Not only did we get the futon moved to the master bedroom for temporary storage, but I picked up my desk and desk accessories from Ikea, and moved the chest of drawers out of the old office. All that's left is to set up the wireless network, assemble the studio furniture, and hook up the equipment. This item should also be completed by the end of the month.
95. Complete 100 expert level sudoku games without hints: I completed two more sudoku puzzles over the past couple of days. My total is now 4 of 100.

Day 9 progress
I have the morning off, so I wanted to make the most of it. My fiancee and I went out for breakfast, and after she left for work, I started to do a few things around the house.
22. Build a home studio: I bought some battery powered moon lights at Home Depot for my gear closet. They do a good job of lighting the closet when both of them are on. After that I hung up my cable kepper, hung all my cables (except the heavier gauge ones that want to stay coiled), reorganized the shelves a bit, and moved some more of my gear into the closet. All that is left for the closet are the guitar cases and the empty boxes for my rack effects (which may end up in the attic rather than take up space in the closet). To finish the room I need to get a new desk, paint one of the walls, vacuum the room, move the futon, and hook up all my gear (which will take longer than everything else combined).
25. Listen to every one of my tracks on iTunes: My current total is up to 99 of 5790.
42. Read 50 books that I have not read before: I finished Loveless last night.
I've only read 2 books in the 33 1/3 series, Loveless and Doolittle. Of the two, I think that Doolittle, which covers the Pixies album of the same name, was the superior of the two, both in subject matter and in execution. Maybe it's because I am more familiar with the album Doolittle (it's one of my top 5 albums personally), but the book about Loveless seemed to have less direction and raw information about the album and the recording process. The only thing I took away from the book Loveless was that Kevin Shields was obsessive about the album while recording it. I hope that In Utero is more along the lines of the Doolittle book.
51. Save $1 cash each day for 1001 days: I picked up $10 while I was at Home Depot. My total is now $30.

Day 8 progress
Work is hectic right now. We have inventory tomorrow night, and all the prep work has caused me to focus on work or relaxing after work. I plan on making some significant progress over the next week, but we'll see how reality reacts to those plans.
25. Listen to every one of my tracks on iTunes: So far I have listened to 61 tracks. I've set the rule that I have to hear the entire track for it to count as completed. So, if I leave the room, I restart the track or skip ahead to the next one.
42. Read 50 books that I have not read before: I was planning to finish Loveless last night, but I got caught up in the Mavericks game on TV, and then I fell asleep. I am going to get ready for bed after I finish this update, and I'll complete my reading at that time. I'll start In Utero on Friday between work and a co-worker's show in Deep Ellum.
57. Clean out my anime collection: Two more titles sold today on eBay. I still have a good chunk of items I can list, but I may be getting closer to the halfway point by now. Of course, that overall goal is likely to increase as I try to get rid of more dust-catchers.
70. Get a passport: I downloaded the .pdf form from the State Department website today. It's the type of file that doesn't allow you to save, so I have to collect all my info before I sit down to fill it in. I should have this item completed on my end by the end of March; who knows how long it will take the State Department to get the finished passport back to me.

More day 6
22. Build a home studio: I found a bookshelf wall bracket while cleaning up the office, so I decided to modify the shelves after all. I thought it would be a quick modification and installation, but like all good home improvement projects, nothing is ever as simple as on "This Old House" (and yes, I remember the Bob Villa and Norm Abram days...).
My initial measurements gave me the impression that the shelf only needed to be shortened from 84" to 62" in height. However, I forgot to account for the trim at floor level, which meant that the width would have to be altered too. Instead of two simple cuts and an adjustment of shelves, I had to take the whole thing apart and cut every shelf to fit the space.
I used the bracket to secure the larger shelf section to the wall, and installed the smaller shelf unit in the closet. Now, my effects pedals, microphones, DI boxes, and preamps are all organized in one place, rather than being stacked in a box in the spare bedroom. I can also keep them locked up in the closet, which makes me feel better in general.
57. Clean out my anime collection: A large chunk of my eBay auctions closed today. I sold 10 of my items that were listed. I also sold another item on Amazon. My current total sold is now 18 items.

Small snag in 22
After cleaning up the office, I turned to planning the dismantling and adjusting of my current shelving system. Basically, it is a homemade "L" shaped bookcase that fits into the corner of the office.
I've been using it to hold my DVD collection and a few books, but with the goal of reducing the size of my anime collection, there has been more empty space on the shelves as of late. My current plans are to remove the short side of the "L", cut the height down to fit the closet, and reset the shelves to make better use of the whole shelf system. Well, upon closer inspection, I ran into a small issue.
The larger side of the "L" is currently full of DVDs, and I'm afraid that if I remove the short leg of the "L" the larger side may be too heavy to stand upright on its own. The amount of lean away from the wall isn't horrible, but I don't want to risk having the shelf come down on top of my desk and my guitar stand. The shelf is just over 7 feet tall, but only 8 inches deep, thus the concern.
I think removing the smaller leg will have to wait until I can do a little more planning and prep work. I'm going to have to take down everything in the shelves, remove the small leg, and then reset the shelves in the larger leg to condense the weight to the bottom of the structure. I may even move it and secure the larger leg to the wall temporarily.

Day 6 progress
I have the day off, so I'm going to try and work on a few things while I have the time.
22. Build a home studio: I was in a band for about a year with a co-worker and some friends. I left the band last year for personal reasons, but I still have the music bug. Since then I have been wanting to put together an organized space in my house to work on my own musical projects. The studio is going in the current office. My fiancee's portion of the office is going to moved into the spare bedroom, that way we both have our own personal space within the house.
Today I am cutting some shelves for the closet so I can store my pedals, cables, instrument cases, and other gear. I'm also going to work on cleaning up the existing office so we can move her things into the other room. We also plan on temporarily moving the futon into the master bedroom to make space for her computer desk.
25. Listen to every one of my tracks on iTunes: I fired up the iTunes earlier and have been listening to it in the background. I currently have 5788 tracks at my disposal, and I'm sure that number will just continue to increase with time. So far I have made a very, very, tiny dent in the total.
42. Read 50 books that I have not read before: I'm more than halfway through Loveless and I should have it finished by the end of the day. Next on the list is volume 34 of the 33 1/3 series, In Utero by Gillian G. Gaar.
57. Clean out my anime collection: I sold another DVD overnight. It went to the post office today. The total sold is up to 7.
98. Go to 5 concerts: I bought tickets to Edgefest 16, which takes place in April. I normally would stay far away from any Edgefest, but this year's lineup looks like it is worth seeing: The Killers, My Chemical Romance, Jet, and Muse.

Day 4 progress
I haven't made any headway today, but I did make some progress over the past couple of days.
7. Grow my hair out: Seeing as I haven't had a haircut in a few weeks, I've already started on this one. I want my hair to be long enough to pull back like I was able to do before last August, when I shaved my head. I figure that it should take about 16 months to get it to a reasonable length, and at least 24 for me to be totally happy with it. Unlike last time, I will get the occasional trim if I absolutely must. The nice thing about my employer is that the dress code is pretty laid back, so I can get away with wearing a hat while my hair is in that weird half-way long state.
51. Save $1 cash each day for 1001 days: I saved another $10, so my grand total is up to $20.
57. Clean out my anime collection: I sold another 3 items. Of the items I listed, I have about 33 left to sell. I know of at least 10 more items I could list, with a few more non-anime related items I could throw in just for good measure.
My ultimate goal for this item on my list is the elimination of dust catchers. I'm a collector, and I have come to realize that I tend to collect things that I either use once or never use at all. My anime collection is a great example of this. So, I'm going to sell off the DVDs that I know I will never watch or never watch again, and at least make a little money off of them.
95. Complete 100 expert level Sudoku games without hints: I've completed 2 up to this point. At this early stage, it takes a bit of concentration and mental wrangling to win them without making myself crazy. By the time I hit game 25 or 30 I should be able to complete them at a reasonable pace.
I play the Sudoku games on the Time Warner website because they're flash based and are the easiest to manipulate. Chalk up one good thing that Time Warner has done.
